Happy Monday! That sounds like an oxymoron, but I say that because if you have a CPG brand with a subscription program, I have something that could help you increase your AOV, one of the keys to driving more profit per subscriber.

A single automated flow, triggered three days before subscription renewal, grew subscription AOV 3.5x faster than non-subscription AOV in the same period.

It took some time to build this out (Recharge doesn’t make it easy) and have been running on autopilot ever since.

Here’s how it works…

What it Does

This brand has a free shipping threshold on subscription orders. Subscribers don't automatically qualify, they have to hit a minimum order value to get it.

The goal: notify subscribers, a few days before their order is renewed, that they could qualify for free shipping, they just need to get to $X to unlock free shipping.

A significant chunk of their subscriber base was sitting just below that threshold every single renewal cycle without knowing it. Some were quietly churning because of it. Others were renewing at a lower AOV than they needed to.

Neither group was being reached. So we built the flow.

How It Works

The flow triggers off a segment of active subscribers whose upcoming order value sits below the free shipping threshold. Three days before their renewal date, the email fires.

It doesn't tell them the exact dollar amount they're short. It tells them they're close, which is intentional.

That ambiguity pulls them into their subscription portal to explore rather than doing the math in their head and deciding it's not worth the effort.

Once they're in the portal the email has already done its job. Product recommendations based on their order history do the rest.

And the framing isn't "spend more this month", it's "unlock free shipping on every future order above the threshold."

A long term benefit, not a one-time nudge.

The Numbers

Over 50% open rate. Over 5% click rate. 4.9% placed order rate.

This can either run once EVER, or thanks to Klaviyo’s new feature, you can allow re-entry, so it will go out every renewal cycle, every month, without anyone touching it.

The Double Win

This flow solves two problems at once.

The subscriber who was quietly considering canceling because shipping felt like too much gets a reason to add to their order instead.

A certain % of the subscribers who were going to renew anyway, just spend more.

No discount or manual work.

Who This Is For

If your subscription brand has a free shipping threshold and you're not running this flow, you are leaving money on the table every single renewal cycle.

This works on any platform where subscribers can edit upcoming orders before they process. Recharge, Skio, Loop, and more.

If your subscribers can add to their order before it processes, you can run this today.

Every subscription brand we've shown this to has had the same reaction.

“Why haven't we been doing this already?!”

If you want to know exactly how to execute this for your brand, the trigger logic, the timing, the copy structure, and so on, book a call, and we'll walk you through the whole thing.
